Marcia Theophilo, Brazilian by incredible inspiration and poetical art, besides
an enthusiast ethnic and endemic culture, she has raised a paean and a cry
to this world threatened of extinction, to this meninos on which the
wicked perversity that reaches till an obscure persecution.
Theophilo’s Poem, divided in two parts, could not be better presented than
how she does herself inn the introduction: “This poem-book, that wants to
inspire to the pantheist mysticism, represents an entire world. Its verses
are short orations supported by a pursuing rhythm. Through the poetry one
wants to give evidence of the sacred quality of life and of those extraordinary
values that we are loosing. Hers is not a poetry dedicated only to man’s children,
but also to whatever germinates, to all that is still considered useless to
the development because has to deal with the consume, and for that reason
is scorned, trampled or simply not considered.” Therefore the reader finds
in the book concentrated all the motivations that have promoted the pattern
and the poetry of the opera. The anthropological passion, the environmental
contempt, the sufferance for the violated earth, the vehement and sweet love
for the creatures that represent it in its primary innocence, just the meninos,
contributes and found on this poetical invention.
At once the reader will be surprised to find himself not in front of a celebrative
work, nor of a polemic or commemorative one, but inside a work, lived and
alive, which is a ritual of an animistic glorification, tragic, joyful, orgiastic
at the same time. It is a style of live versifying and from the inside of
a shared community. This style eliminates all the differences between subject
and object, accomplishing in its own process, better in its own saying, it
assimilates the reader to the protagonists, in this case to the sons of the
Jaguar that is the mythical personification of the forest. It’s involving
like the ceremonies are, with their vehemence, their triumphal obsessive rhythm.
This humanity, elementary in its needs, complex in its symbolic relationship
with life, integrated with the nature, protected from the omnipresent maternity
of the Jaguar, after she has been driven out from her unconscious but jealous
heaven, completes her revolution with the exodus through the cities. Here
she will suffer and repay the violence of a strange world where everything
is distorted. To listen and to see all this from the side of the victims is
the first originality of the work.
The sensibility and the lyrical fineness of the briefs compositions of which
the book is composed are of unlimited concerted nature.
It is rare that many attitudes of a person engaged in studies and researches,
that has a daring civil campaign to defend, can realize and be made in a poetry
work; so lighted, so animated that could not be so without a full adhesion,
an absolute love, ideal and sensual , to its theme.
